arkets. For example: Bulu Market, Karangayu Market, Johar Market, Peterongan Market and Pedurungan Market. This market is very important for the community, especially to get their daily needs. In tradisional market, we can buy vegetables, fruits, rice, office supplies and snacks. In the market, as a buyer we can also communicate with the seller, to know each other and to do transaction directly.
Contrary to the traditional market, in the modern market there is only one seller. There is no communication between buyers and sellers. In fact, the seller is replaced by a worker and machine of computer. Many of the merchandise in the modern market come from abroad. And, very little merchandise come from local communities in the modern market. They are, clothes, watches, hats, shoes, food, drink, and fruit. All of them come from other countries.
In the market, there are traditional food, traditional drink, traditional cloth, livestock and local transport (tricycles; becak). Market visitors are free to choose. Who will be invited to do transaction. Transactions are conducted independently between buyers and sellers. In this case, that is not only buying and selling transactions, but also brotherhood, friendship and cooperation.
The duration of buying and selling is also longer. At 04:00 am, for example,in the traditional market is crowded with seller of vegetable and fruit. at 06:00 am, traditional food is ready to be eaten. Even, since at 03.00 am, public transports also have to serve market users.
Traditional market is used by many part, and also provide benefits to the public society. But, mall only provides benefits to one part. So, we must preserve and maintain traditional markets. The society need the market to survive. We suggest to our society, as specially for traditional market in Semarang. We sould not change the traditional market in to the mall. The modern market makes our society into poorer.
Let’s, save our traditional markets.
